School-Based Counseling
Support where young people need it.
What Is School-Based Counseling?
Young people bring their whole lives with them to school. Stress, grief, relationships, family challenges and other experiences can affect how they feel, connect with others and engage in learning.
Youth Guidance counselors work directly in schools, creating accessible, supportive spaces where students can talk, build on their strengths and develop skills to navigate challenges and move forward.
Meeting Young People Where They Are
Someone to talk to. Someone in their corner.
Youth Guidance’s trained counselors build trusted relationships with students and provide individualized support based on each young person’s needs and strengths.
Through individual, group and family counseling, students can receive support with:
Managing stress and emotions
Navigating grief, loss and difficult experiences
Building healthy relationships
Adjusting to changes at school or home
Strengthening communication and coping skills
Setting goals and planning for the future
When additional support is needed, counselors also help connect students and families with resources and services in their schools and communities.
A Strengths-Based Approach
Building on what’s already there.
Every young person brings strengths, experiences and possibilities to the counseling relationship.
Our counselors use strengths-based, culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices to help students recognize those strengths, develop healthy ways to navigate challenges and build skills that support their well-being and success.
Partner With Youth Guidance
Youth Guidance partners with schools to provide relationship-centered counseling and mental health and well-being support that is responsive to the needs of students and school communities.
